Abstract/Summary

Sketches began as an idea that music and drawing are interrelated. “Seeing music” in a way that isn’t just notation can be quite challenging for those without synesthesia, thus making connections between these two art forms seem impossible. However, this piece takes a philosophy used in architectural drawing and representation, applies it to music, and makes basic connections between the two. Marco Frascari, an Italian architect, believed that architectural drawings should exhibit four important qualities: the literal, allegorical, moral, and anagogical. Sketches applies this to music and aims to show that music should also exhibit these four characteristics in a different manner.
