Abstract/Summary

Modern museums are essential to the protection and conservation of human cultural values. In an attempt to prove this, I will unite theoretical and applied perspectives to explore relevant museum display methods and to define appropriate curatorial procedures. In particular, there will be an emphasis on The South Otago Museum located in Balclutha, New Zealand, where I spent time shadowing museum professionals and auditing a Maori artifacts collection. If the project is successful, there will be a greater understanding of the importance of protecting such museum institutions.
