Abstract

Sophia Smith’s The Lodge is a hotel, restaurant, and spa, all contained within a single building, located on the far west edge of Paradise, overlooking Little Butte Creek canyon. The building, divided into two long bars separated by a garden, seeks to integrate with its surroundings: its long, narrow forms stretch across and down the bluff edge. The guest rooms, public spaces, and the occupiable roof all look out onto the vast, beautiful canyon below. The intent is that guests and visitors feel at all times connected with nature.
