Abstract/Summary
Shimomura changes her compositional materials depending on the game or function of music she is writing for, but she consistently uses certain compositional techniques throughout her career to create a recognizable compositional style. These techniques include her approach to harmonic repetition; the way she builds motives, thematic development, and accompaniment patterns; and the way she uses extended tertian harmony, modality, tonality, ostinati, and meter.
