Abstract/Summary

When singers experience unsupported singing, or when their voices don’t have the usual sparkling quality, the best thing to do is to return to the basics: vocal exercises. When singers select their exercises, they select the exercises that have helped their voices in the past, but they typically never stop to wonder why the exercises help. What happens if a singer come across a problem that he or she doesn’t know how to fix? That’s where this study can help! In this paper, I will characterize different warm-ups that can assist with the unification of the vocal registers, legato singing, staccato singing, and agile singing. For future adjustments of these four techniques, there will not only be numerous exercises available, but singers will also find comfort in being able to guide themselves through these vocal troubles.
