Abstract/Summary

Bilingual education continues to play an important role in elementary schools due to the growing linguistic and cultural diversity within educational communities. Bilingual programs help students develop academic and language skills while strengthening inclusion, cultural identity, and student participation. At the same time, service-learning experiences allow university students to connect academic knowledge with real-world experiences within the community.

This project analyzes the benefits of bilingual education and service-learning through a review of academic research and observation experiences conducted at Pacheco Elementary School during the spring of 2026. Through activities in kindergarten, second-grade, and thirdgrade classrooms, different learning styles, teaching strategies, hands-on activities, and forms of student support were observed. In addition, the project includes a personal reflection on how these experiences strengthened my interest in becoming a bilingual teacher and working with elementary school students in the future.
