Abstract/Summary
This project is an explanation of the importance of bilingualism, science, and our responsibility as humans within this environment. As living beings on this planet, we have a responsibility to respect and protect it. Over the course of the last several hundred years, we humans have made countless advancements. We have created unimaginable technology and discovered incredible resources produced by the land. However, in the process of doing so, we have damaged and continue to damage our environment. Reefs in the ocean have been bleached by increases in acidity, thousand year old glaciers have melted, forests have been destroyed by expansion, and so much more. Without mass awareness and a sense of responsibility towards protecting our environment, the planet will continue to deteriorate. We have the power to change this course of destruction through communication and education. All people deserve the right to education and as individual communities we have to work to make science education accessible.
This project discusses the importance of teaching science education bilingually, in order to reach more people. Language can be a barrier to communication across the world, but it doesn’t have to be. Especially in the United States of America, there is a mix of thousands of different languages and cultures. One of the most spoken languages in the U.S., other than English, is Spanish. This project explores the expansion of science education taught in the Spanish language.
