Abstract/Summary
The Final Design Review (FDR) document outlines the senior design project carried out by a team four mechanical engineering students at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. The project sponsor is the Parker Hannifin Corporation, specifically the Parker Aerospace Fluid Systems Division with oversight from Sr. Project Engineer Michael Yankauskas. The project involves designing and manufacturing the male ferrule component of an aero-fluid coupling assembly using additively manufactured high temperature engineered plastics (AM HTEP). The objective is to create a 3D printed plastic ferrule that interfaces with a preexisting SAE international standardized coupling assembly while retaining the strength, fatigue life, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) capabilities of the current aluminum part. The decisions behind the final design, the manufacturing process, and the testing requirements are included in this document. Furthermore, the entire project is reflected upon with next steps and recommendations listed.
