Abstract

The paper examines the history of the Cal Poly athletics program and how Cal Poly fits into the institution of modern college football. This paper explains how the athletic programs at Cal Poly increase student morale and explores some of the reasons why college football is held in such high esteem by both students and fans alike. To gauge student response, I look at past student publications such as The Polygram and Mustang Daily, focussing on their reaction to athletics.
