Abstract/Summary
The purpose of this project was to design and create multiple small benches for the City Farm SLO during the term of Spring 2026 quarter. This project was specifically intended to be an affordable, pragmatic, and durable project that would last a long time in order to serve the people that visit a comfortable place to sit and come together. In order to achieve the project delivery for these benches the pre-construction of the project started by visiting the city farm to inspect the existing benches and taking the measurements of them in order to shorten them for the use of children on the farm. The main points and lessons learned during this project were communication, adaptability, endurance and discipline. Ultimately, doing this project solo required a lot of patience and determination as there were times where setting up the benches was the hardest challenge. In order to effectively finish the project, the preconstruction phase started with a site visit to City Farm SLO to assess the current benches and gain a better understanding of the client's expectations. In order to make the new seats suitable for kids who regularly visit the farm during educational activities, measurements were obtained from the previous benches and design changes were made. After the site visit, a construction plan, drawings, and material estimates were made to make sure the project could be finished quickly and affordably. Many important lessons about communication, flexibility, perseverance, and discipline were discovered throughout the construction process. When difficulties emerge during assembly and material preparation, it needs perseverance, preparedness, and strong problem-solving skills to finish the job by myself.
