Abstract/Summary

The Preconstruction Risk Assessment and Infection Control Risk Assessment (PCRA/ICRA) course is a collaboration between Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Construction Management Department, Cal Poly’s California Center for Construction Education, Green Advantage, LLC and Thomas Kommer, J.D. The goal is to create a certification course in which industry professionals become certified, signifying their knowledge and understanding of PCRA/ICRA practices associated with construction in the environment of patient care. The project began with the PCRA/ICRA manual authored by Stellar Performance, LLC. Working with Nicholas Schorno, the author developed the learning material for the course. The learning material consists of power point presentations, one for each module within the manual. To accompany the presentations there are supplemental quizzes. The presentations cover material associated with real life pandemic scenarios in which the construction industry must engage with sensitive care environments, such as hospitals. Safe construction practices regarding material disposal, air contamination, site logistics and more are also covered. This information is necessary to give individuals taking the certification course a better understanding of how the job site can perform work with outside influences like a pandemic along with performing the work without interrupting the clean, sterile and stabilized nature of health care facilities.
