Abstract/Summary

The Leaning Pine Arboretum gazebo provides an aesthetic relaxation space for visitors to the arboretum as well as being a functional structure for faculty as a future event space. This gazebo replaces an existing one, revitalizing the space in conjunction with the arboretum’s planned growth over the coming years. There were many challenges throughout the construction process including permitting issues, design complexities, and coordination with architects and engineers. Persevering through these taught a great deal about project management, the construction industry, and the importance of teamwork. The structure is a total rejuvenation of the prior structure; it is now stronger, larger, and more visually appealing. During my time on the project between August and December of 2024, my team and I completed the pouring of new concrete post footings as well as the installation of the posts, beams, joists, and decking material. This project instilled in me the importance of planning and adhering to a strict schedule to complete projects on time and within budget. The work completed thus far has transformed the aesthetics of the arboretum lawn and the completion of the project will continue to amplify its surroundings.
