Abstract/Summary
This project entails the design of a linear induction motor for electric bicycle and motorcycle applications. This design demonstrates superior mechanical efficiency and power transfer compared with the previous design that it is based upon. It is an improvement on conventional permanent magnet synchronous motors. We designed, simulated, and began fabrication of a new motor design based on an existing linear rail motor design from/by the Cal Poly Hyperloop Club. The motor uses two stationary laminated cores and six windings to rotate an aluminum annulus. It is intended to operate on 3-phase AC power with a variable frequency drive (VFD) controller.
