Consistent with Cal Poly's 'learn by doing' philosophy, the CRP department provides undergraduate and graduate students with a sound theoretical and professional base, and numerous opportunities for applied scholarship. CRP project-based studios serve a diverse group of California public and private sector clients who fund real-world learning opportunities.

CRP students engage in community, city and site assessment, public participation, critical thinking, and problem solving, from the area scale to the city and the region. Our student work has been recognized with local, state, and national awards from the American Planning Association, Bank of America/Merril Lynch, and the Urban Land Institute, among others.
