Abstract

ABSTRACT

This internship consisted of developing and instructing a course at California Polytechnic State University. A major part of the internship included the development of the DSCI 470 Calf Management Course. The course was designed with the intention of utilizing the Cal Poly Dairy Facility, current calf raising programs, and the Cal Poly dairy calves in hopes of maximizing a hands-on learning experience. The 4 unit class consists of two hour meetings Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first hour designated for lecture and instruction, the second hour for outside activities. Lecture and activity material focused on colostrum management, neonatal calf care, calf hood diseases and general calf management.
