CCC Summit

Abstract

The California Community Colleges have been very successful in becoming more environmentally and economically Sustainable through energy and resource efficient construction, rehabilitation, and operation of campus facilities. As budgets for public higher-education shrink, the Community Colleges have shown how energy efficiency can translate to life-cycle cost savings that free up dollars for the classroom. This presentation will focus on challenges and solutions from concept through construction and commissioning in order to build sustainable higher education facilities. There will be a showcase of several community colleges successes, and Best Practices presented by Community College leaders. Representatives from the Investor Owned Utilities will discuss the available technical assistance, policy recommendations, and incentive programs available to higher education customers, and the role that the CCC/IOU Energy Efficiency Partnership has played in helping campuses on the path to Sustainability. This presentation will also review: the California Community College Board of Governors’ Sustainable Energy Policy; the current status of the CCC/IOU Partnership and the plans for the 2009-2011 program cycle; highlight the various utility programs available for energy efficient new construction design assistance, information systems technology efficiency, food service technology, emerging technologies, climate change programs, demand response, the California Solar Initiative and Self Generation Incentive programs.
