Abstract/Summary
The Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Region 6 & 7 Competition is one of the most prestigious student construction management competitions in the United States. Success in the competition requires technical knowledge, effective communication, time management, and strategic preparation. The purpose of this senior project was to develop a comprehensive Competition Preparation Manual for future Cal Poly Construction Management students competing in the ASC Reno Competition. The manual was created through the collection and analysis of information from previous competitors, team captains, competition retrospectives, and the author's personal experience participating in ASC Reno competitions. Surveys were sent to students in a Google Form format containing 18 questions ranging from competition preparation advice to "What are 3 things every team should do to succeed?". The information was organized into a practical guide covering pre-competition preparation, problem statement interpretation, mock competitions, competition execution, deliverable development, presentations, professionalism, and post-competition reflection. The final deliverable is a professionally formatted manual intended to serve as a living document for future teams. This resource provides actionable recommendations, checklists, and proven strategies designed to improve team performance, increase confidence, and preserve institutional knowledge within the Cal Poly Construction Management Department.
