Abstract/Summary
Increasingly AI tools are being integrated into higher education and are starting to influence students’ access to information, the completion of assignments, and the use of new material. Generative AI-based tools, writing assistants, and automated research tools allow students to get explanations easily, sort out materials, or explore new areas of knowledge. While these technological advancements can improve productivity and make learning more efficient, they also raise questions of accuracy and academic integrity, as well as concerns about excessive reliance. This study focuses on how Construction Management (CM) students perceive AI tools in their academic work. An anonymous survey was conducted among all CM students on the frequency in which they used AI, the perceived benefits, fears, and other issues regarding AI technology. The research questions guiding this study were: (1) How frequently do CM students use AI tools in their academic work? (2) What benefits and challenges do CM students associate with AI use? And (3) How do demographic factors such as class standing, GPA, and work experience influence AI usage and perceptions? Descriptive and comparative analysis identified trends and correlations related to technology adoption and perception by CM students. Understanding how CM students presently use these AI tools will help to identify more responsible ways of using AI technologies in construction education.
