Abstract/Summary
This paper details the construction of two cast in place foundations as well as a lightly reinforced cast in place wall. The project, located inside the high bay, provides the Architectural Engineering (ARCE) department with an opportunity to test Fiber Reinforced Polymer wrap as a retrofitting option for walls dating back to pre-1980s. Due to site conditions, and project design, this project required extensive planning and communication within our team, faculty advisors, and shop technicians. This paper will discuss the phasing of construction and procurement of material that was required for the completion of this project. It also aims to show the project challenges with a hope to provide a learning experience for future projects of a similar nature. This project demonstrates the need for communication and quality control on the construction site. The construction management team on this project was split into two roles; Project Manager and Superintendent. This paper will be going over the roles of the superintendent. Many of these tasks were based around logistics, labor tracking, and constructability reviews. In collaboration with the Project Manager and design team, this project was successful in construction and will serve the ARCE team with valuable knowledge regarding the use of Fiber Reinforced Polymer as a retrofitting option for lightly reinforced walls that date back to the 1980s.
